Welcome to Hemingway Fine Wines
updated on 14th June 2011
The aftershocks of 13th June
are further set-back to recovery

Since the 22 February earthquake we have been able to get
to our shop twice. The first time to pick up the computers and
the second to get the insurance loss adjuster access for an
assessment. The aftershocks of 13th June will mean a
further engineers report will be required for Radio NZ House
The 22 February earthquake has prevented us trading and the immediate
future of Hemingway Fine Wines is looking uncertain. The shop sustained
significant damage to stock. There is extensive liquefaction on the ground
floor of Radio NZ House and through the shop. Mold from the liquefaction
is also a problem - we got in briefly to reclaim our computers 3 weeks after
the event but we are now coming up 11 weeks on and no more progress.
The Copthorne Hotel still hasn't been demolished and access to the
immediate area won't be granted until that occurs - we are in
the drop zone of the Copthorne. The fear is that this is all
going to take a very long time, indeed! There are lots of
Chinese whispers going around and the latest says our building
Radio NZ House may have significant problems - nothing there
to underpin the foundations - even if it could be fixed it will be
outrageously expensive and the remedy may not work anyway.
Like many others, our block is sitting in a bowl of jelly!!
