On our counter we have a book entitled "1001 Wines you must try before you die," which is a bit intimidating whatever way you look at it. Someone called 'Anonymous' once said, "I plan on living forever, so far so good." Firstly, not knowing when you're going to fall off the perch means you don't know how fast you have to imbibe and, 1001 is a number that will seem excessive to many though I've already exceeded that a few times over. Let's tone the whole thing down and change the theme to: "Five wines to try before the end of the month, or even next month." Dean and I have selected five wines (all new in stock) that we consider outstanding in every respect, and they are listed below. If you purchase one each of these five wines we will present you with a voucher to collect 'free of charge' the wine you liked best from the five. That's a helleva good deal whatever way you look at it - drink five superb wines and get a sixth free!

| Five stunning wines to drink before the end of the month in hommage to your taste buds. Here they are, from left to right: 1. Domaine Emillian Gillet Viray Clesse Quintane 2005 - white burgundy of excellent quality. 2. Domaine Villaine Mercury Les Montots 2007 - red burgundy from the family domaine of the man that runs Domaine de la Romanee Conti. 3. Jayer-Gilles Hauts Cotes de Nuits 2006 - red burgundy from this appellation in a good vintage is always fantastic value-for-money. 4. Bouchard Finlayson Missionvale Chardonnay 2008 - amazing French Chablis-like chardonnay from South African producer Bouchard-Finlayson, the family of the famous Bouchard's of burgundy. 5. Domaine Brusset Les Chabriles Vieilles Vignes Cairanne 2007 - amazing quality from this boutique producer that also has a Gigondas and Cotes du Rhone available in the shop. But you can change the five - these are five of a dozen or so of new, similarly priced wines that can be mixed in a quintuple selection to gain you a voucher for a 6th bottle. |

Isn't high-time we booted the recession into touch and drank some decent wine?

This week's Comment:
Keith Stewart who is a wine critic and writes for the listener, has a radio show on Saturday evenings that covers 'Wine and Food.' I heard the show on the weekend and found it very interesting, to say the least. Keith is a man of my own heart and is concerned about all the bad stuff like preservatives that goes into processed food, and that the world today is becoming a globalised world of fast food with ever-increasing medical repercussions.
He gave out his first rule of buying food: "Never ever buy any food you see advertised on TV because there's no doubt it will be processed by large companies and be full of preservatives, etc."
I totally agree, and I'll be listening to next week's show, especially now the Super 14 won't be a distraction. |

Rocaventosa Pinot Grigio 2008
Fantastic, inexpensive bottle of Italian pinot grigio that's a stunner for the price. This wine has a lovely creamy texture and lots of true Italian character. Furthermore, we found it to be the perfect match with a little Italian prosciutto thinly sliced - the resultant blend of flavours and texture are out there giving you some WOW factor. And the wine is only 12.5%. Try them.
RRP is $18.50/btl, Our special price to you is just $16.50/btl
