Mike Weersing is one of the best winemakers about and his Pyramid Valley tasting takes place this Thursday and there are still some seats available. Click on the icon below to check out the details. Last week we held our blind riesling tasting and the honours were shared between winemakers Hatch Kalberer (Fromm) and Belinda Gould (Muddy Water) and our champion taster on the night was winemaker Kym Rayner of Torlesse Wines in Waipara. Kym makes quality, value-for-money wines sold under both the Omihi Road and Torlesse range. We stock them here and highly recommend them!

Collazzi 2004
The emergence of Super Tuscan wines in recent years has thrown up some magnificent wines in the face of Italian tradition, and this is one of them. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc ripened from low-yielding vines on the hillsides of Tuscany to achieve optimum richness, structure and aromas after a long vinification and 18 months in oak is the basic pedigree of this wine. Add to that the qualities of the 2004 vintage in Tuscany and you have a wine of superior character. The wine is as classy as the label looks.
RRP is $56.00/btl. Your special price this week is only $49.90

Dancing Water Sauvignon Blanc 2008
This is everything you want from a quality Sauvignon Blanc. It comes from low cropped grapes in the Awatere Valley, is very well made and exudes all the aromatics and texture of a classy savvy. The balance between the searing acidity of passionfruit and lemongrass and the textured, layered tropical fruit flavours produces a long, sustained finish. Highly recommended.
RRPis $24.90/btl. Our special price is only $21.90/btl.

Gibson Bay Pinot Noir 2006
Pinot Noir is becoming less expensive as time goes by and this one is living proof. We originally stocked it at $23/btl, then $19.90, then with volume $15.90 and now it's on a super special price of just $12.90/btl. Don't even look, you won't find better value-for-money at this price, anywhere. The label isn't flash but the wine is extremely quaffable at this price and with all those summer barbeques just round the corner this is a beauty.
Brilliant value at just $12.90/btl. Case price only $145

Bellbird Spring Block Eight Sauvignon Blanc 2009
A Sancerre style of savvy that is made from hand-picked whole-bunch pressed grapes, fermented in old oak and then lees aged to achieve amazing texture and length of palate. Guy Porter who made this wine achieved amazing results with his Home Block 2008 white blend and we believe this wine will have similar appeal. The price is up there but you are getting much more for your money than an average tank fermented and bottled savvy. We will have this wine open on Friday and Saturday this week - come in and ask for a taste.
RRP $29.90. Our special price only $26.90/btl

Joseph Drouhin Cote-de-Nuits-Village 2006
Lovers of French burgundy will go for this wine which shows a harmonius blend of cherry, liquorice and spice. There hints of forest floor and mushroom but the character is more feminine than grunty and the lovely velvety texture is dominant in red berries with good balance and excellent length of finish. Can't help but like this wine for all those reasons and more. Sensuous, to say the least!
RRP is $45.90. Your special price only $40.90/btl
