We are open this Waitangi Day Saturday during our usual business hours of 10am to 7pm and you're invited to come in for a taste of Viognier (vee-on-yay) and several other good wines we think are perfect for a warmish February after a less than temperate January. The weather we can't control but 'the wine you drink is wine you deserve' and there's no point in plying one's temple with beverages that are less than excellent while also giving value. The good aspect of that is we have spent many a long hour earnestly selecting and stocking what we believe are the better wines for less cost, and then passing that good information on to you. Have a read below to reap the benefits of our market research - and see you in-shop soon. Happy drinking!

weather wasn't 100% but who needs it when you're eating Akaroa Salmon together with Pyramid Valley Semillon (pics left) which proved to be the match made in heaven. All the courses in order with wines were: Amuse Bouche with Chandon Brut Rose, Chilled Pea Soup with truffle oil with Cape Mentelle Sav/Sem, Akaroa Salmon with PV Semillon, Venison with Joseph Drouhin Cotes-de-Nuits Villages, Cherry Dark Chocolate dessert with Lustau Pedro Ximenez Sherry and Matua Oakcakes and cheeseboard with Fonseca Tawny Port. The array of tastes were a big hit with our winners who blended together like they know each other for year. Overall, a great day!

Yalumba Y Series Viognier 2007
Vee-on-yay as it's pronouced is one of the world's rarer grape varieties and if you haven't tried here's your chance at a highly discounted price. This wine has a highly lifted bouquet of apricots/peach/stonefruit and this alluring feature follows on the palate with a wine that yields lovely texture, complex tropical and citrus fruit characters with hints of honeysuckle and a creamy finish. As well, this is a wine equally enjoyable alone or with a variety of seafood and white meats. And it's certainly outstanding value for money. Come and taste in-shop.
RRP is $16.50/btl. Our special price in January is only $12.90/btl or 12btl/cs for $149 - super value

Ostler Blue House Pinot Gris 2008
Waitaki Valley in Central Otago has been carving out a reputation for outstanding pinot noir but that grape's close relative pinot gris is now also making its mark. This is a very low-cropped 'gris' made in an off-dry style that displays subtle aromatics and characters of complex stonefruit and apple. Made by Jeff Sinnott of Amisfield fame, this is a seriously good wine with good palate weight and structure to match.
RRP is $32.50. Our special price only $28.90/btl

Valli Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2008
Grant Taylor is one of the best in the business in terms of NZ winemaking prowess and this wine is his latest release in Valli's tri-regional Pinot labels. This is an impressive pinot that delivers complex cherry, red plumfruit characters, is very elegant in both bouquet and on the palate. The finish has lovely integrated tannins and is velvety long. Highly recomended.
RRP $54.90/btl. Our special price only $48.90/btl

Castillo de Fuendejalon Crianza 2005
This very inexpensive blend of Garnacha (75%) and Tempranillo (25%) delivers so much for its price. Aged in oak and the bottle for two years prior to release, it's an easy-drinking style, light on the palate, that displays its power with savoury and spicy characters and a dry finish. Unusual in that the label encompasses the whole bottle, this is a red for summer and is only 12.5% alc.
RRP is $17.50/btl, Our special price to you is just $14.50 or $168/cs

Deen De Bortoli Vat 5 Botrytis Semillon 2006
Summer desserts such as compote of fruit, poached pears and lemon tart or a cheese board would go down well with this elegant wine that shows citrus and stonefruit characters with a light touch of vanillian oak that imparts length. On the finish it shows refreshing acidity that balances the botrytis sweetness. Really great value summer drinking.
RRP is $21.50/btl. We are offering it at the super price of just $18.90/btl

Faiveley Montagny 'Le Joncs' 2002
The 2002 vintage was an outstanding one for burgundy and this white burgundy made 100% from chardonnay grapes from a tiny vineyard in the southernmost appellation of the Cote Chalonnaise is holding up extremely well and, indeed, is nothing short of delicious. The nose oat-meally with aged, walnutty hints. On the palate it has some nutty, apple-like chardonnay fruit characters - I was lucky enough to be offered a crayfish just after we secured this wine
RRP $39.50/btl. Our super 'real-deal' only $23.50/btl Stocks limited
