Cave de Tain Syrah 2006
Vin de Pays wines (Country Wines) are sometimes found to be superior than some AOC wines and here is a glaring example. We tasted two vintages of this wine and both were very appealing for the price. This one is from the Northern Rhone and it is a good expression of that area's Syrah, displaying blackcurrant and liqorice flavours while being supple and smooth on the palate. Typical of French reds it's dry and food friendly and of medium weight. Brilliant value quaffer.
RRP is $15.90/btl. Our Special Price to you only $13.90/btl

Willm Reserve Pinot Gris 2006
This wine was a big hit at our most recent 'Italian and French Wines and Cheeses' night when matched with the Canterbury Cheesemongers 'Munster' cheese from France. It was a superb match and showed superior aromatics to most pinot gris' and delivered with good palate weight, texture and concentration. The style is more off-dry than the often encountered thin and sweeter gris' that lack punch. If you like gris and a good example at the best price then this is your wine.
RRP is $26.90. Our special offer unbeatable price is only $19.90.

Sobreno Crianza Toro 2002
Spain produces some amazing red wine bargains and this wine is right up there with the best. Tempranillo is Spain's best red wine grape and is the dominant variety in Toro where it's known as Tina de Toro. It's a dark garnet colour and has lots of concentration characterised by a bouquet of leather, cigar box and spice and is just as impressive on the palate with lots of length. The benefit of bottle age is apparent (2002 vintage) and this wine is drinking beautifully right now. You'll be impressed not only by the wine but also the price.
RRP is $31.50/btl. We got a great deal and it's a bargain at only $21.90

Te Tera Pinot Noir 2006
This is one of the best, if not the best, mid-twenties NZ Pinot Noir on the market. Another that comes to mind is Strugglers Flat, also from Martinborough, and we stock both. Why, perhaps it's because it has excellent pinot noir varietal character and is typical of the region; gamey and savoury, well balanced, a hint of mocha, not over-extracted and generous on the palate with slightly spicy, long finish. When you drink pinot you need it to taste like pinot, not a merlot or cabernet as some do. This wine achieves that with elegance.
RRP is $29.90. Our excellent price to you is $23.50 on special.

Cantine Tollo Roccavestosa Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2006
In Italy the Trebbiano grape is much maligned as the work horse, large volume variety. But the grape has the ability to produce fresh almond and lemon scented wines with gentle oilyness and good palate weight. This has it. The finish is clean and dry, and it's the perfect partner to antipasto and seafood. And what a price ! Fabulous white wine drinking for so little cost - one of Dean's favs !
RRP is $14.90. Our great price to you is only $12.90/btl
