Today we are tasting the Framingham range of wines including the 2009 Savignon Blanc which Decanter Magazine (UK) rated as NZ's best savvy. We will also taste the Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Classic Riesling - highly respected UK Master of Wine Jancis Robinson has been quoted as saying that Framingham winemaker "Andrew Headley is one of the best riesling winemakers in the world let alone the southern hemisphere."


We are closed tomorrow (Friday) but to will have the Cheesemonger selling his wares at front of shop and will crank up the b-b-q with the Peter Timbs sponsored sausage sizzle (proceeds to the Red Cross), have the Framingham wines open to taste with some cheeses and also have available a selection of Breads from Breads Of Europe. Come any time between 2pm and 7pm.

 

 

Guigal Cotes-du-Rhone 2006

The most consistent producer in the Rhone Valley of France is probably Guigal who go to extraordinary lengths to keep every vintage of their Cotes-du-Rhone as good as it can be. The 2006 vintage is really excellent - made from 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 10% Mouvedre from vines with an average age of 35 years. This is a full bodied red with intense aromatics, displaying red berries and spices on the palate with finesse and a long finish. You just can't go wrong with this wine for any occasion.

Lake Forsyth Pinot Gris 2009

One of the very best local products is Lake Forsyth Pinot Gris 2009 - their best vintage to date. If want something to match perfectly with whitebait this wine works. I like to see pear flavours coming through in pinot gris and this one delivers along with spice and a velvety richness on the palate with a hint of mineral on a long, dry finish. We don't think this is priced highly for what it delivers
