MacVine's Michael Jemison is coming from Auckland to present our Moss Wood Tasting this coming Wednesday, and I'm personnally inviting you to attend. What else will you be doing on a chilly, wintry evening at 6pm - I suggest nothing too important. Moss Wood is of cult status because of their wines' longevity and rarity. They are wines of superfine structure and balance. On Saturday we also invite you to come-in to the shop for a taste of a selection of the wines offered below. Just wait till you try them - everyone on Saturday will receive free a wine knife and key-chain with any purchase. We look forward to seeing you on a fab Saturday. See you soon!

Exclusively Moss Wood - the only South Island Tasting of these wines

Moss Wood Tasting - 8 wines

Cult following producer in the Margaret River

Moss Wood is a premium wine producer located in the Margaret River Wine region of Western Australia. They are up with the very best in Aussie. James Halliday is estatic about their quality, rating them a 5-Star producer, describing the semillons as nothing less than 'glorious' and the cabernet as a ' cult classic.'

Moss Wood make Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Semillon and from Moss Wood's Ribbon Vale Vineyard, Semillon Savignon Blanc, Cabernet Merlot and Merlot. They also do a Cabernet Sauvignon produced from grapes sourced from Yallingup and Cowaramup.

These are absolutely top-shelf Australian wines. We will taste two semillons, a chardonnay and five of their magnificent reds - Amy's 2006, Ribbon Vale Merlot 2006, Ribbon Vale Cabernet-Merlot 2007, Cabernet 2005 and Cabernet 2004. The lowest RRP on these wines is $40/btl, the last two sell for $130 each. Each taster will taste over $40 wine in the warm, comfort of Eliza's Manor House - cheese and bread included - fantastic value.

Price only $30pp. Booking is essential. Phone Dean, Kate or Brian at Hemingway on 374 3344 to book (Phone confirmation only with credit card). Wednesday 20th May, Eliza's Manor House, 82 Bealey Avenue (off-street parking available) at 6:00pm (tasters please be on time). This is a 'not-to-be-missed-tasting.' To be presented by Michael Jemison of MacVine.

Guigal Cotes-du-Rhone 2005

This vintage is absolutely stunning - tasted blind against a $40 wine of high regard the Guigal C-d-R came through again. Beautiful velvety-textured blend of Syrah (55%), Grenache (35%), Mouvedre (8%) and others (2%) the wine is dense berry-fruit character with pepper showing through, lovely balance and structure and long finish. From 35 year old vines they just keep getting better. Only 3,300,000 bottles made which is why this wine is great value-for-money.

RRP is $27/btl. Our special price only $22.50/btl

Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir 2008

Save 25% on this great buy - only $26.50/btl

Ata Rangi is one of NZ's biggest names in wine and their 2008 Crimson Pinot Noir is their best vintage ever for this wine. Fantastic primary fruit characters that show dark cherry, mulberries, raspberry and spice. Good structure with that lovely Martinborough savouriness, fine tannins and long finish.  Really good buying. Take a 6-bottle case home for just $155.

Tarrazas Reserva Malbec 2000

Seriously outstanding wine from Argentina imported by Moet Hennessy. Shows black berry fruits with a dark chocolate, mocha and vanilla spices, full bodied and very rounded with big, soft tannins. Terrazas Reserva wines are hand-harvested from select estate vineyards within the top districts of Mendoza: Developed with extensive focus on vineyard management, and only released during excellent vintages, these wines stand out for their aromatic intensity and complex style.

RRP is $31.00/btl. Our special price only $24.90/bottle

Deutz Blanc de Blanc Vintage 2005

Wine of the Month for May

At our recent bubbly tasting this was the wine that took the honours of the most popular bubbly - hardly surprising when you consider we offered it for only $26.50 when the true price is $35.50. Made only from Chardonnay grapes the wine is a true blanc de blanc style being very clean and crisp on the palate while displaying a sustained mousse with exotic flavours of complex citrus fruits and a long, clean finish. Clearly an outstanding NZ bubbly that goes from strength to strength.

Still currently available at our special price of just $26.50/bottle

ARA Pathway Pinot Noir 2008

Winegrowers of Ara have some very interesting labels and even more interesting wines. There are 3 savvys and 3 pinot noirs in this range and we rate them consistently good wines that offer value for money. All the wines are fermented dry with good intensity and structure which is a very pleasant change to some of the hidious 'fruit bombs with high residual sugars' that we see coming out of Marlborough. Sam Weaver of Churton fame makes these which makes them serious wines with seriously low asking prices. The Pathway savvy is only $14.90 to you while this pinot noir is also a bargain

RRP is $21.90. Your low price only $18.90 for the time being

Ata Rangi Martinborough Sauvignon Blanc 2008

Ata Rangi need no introduction as 'quality' is very much their middle name. This wine is no exception and although the region is not famed for savvy this wine has very alluring qualities for the more discerning imbiber. Tropical fruits jump from the glass with passionfruit and pear in domination. The finish is long and creamy and this is an exceedingly good bottle of wine for this low offer. Normally on the shelf for $26/bottle.

Our special low price is just $19.50/bottle. Save 25%
