Happy New Year for 2009. May all the wines you drink this year be of superior quality to 2008.

This coming Thursday evening, 22nd January, at 6pm, Winemaker/Viticulturalist Ivan Sutherland from Dog Point Vineyard in Marlborough, will be in the shop to show us their new releases for 2009, and you're invited to come and have a free taste. But you need to phone and let us know you're attending because we have a limit of 30 people in our small shop. If you'd like to attend, please call now - the 4 wines to try include Section 94 and the 2007 Pinot Noir.

Dean, Greg and myself has also been discussing our best wines for 2008. Click here to find out what they are - Wine picks for 2008

Louis Jadot Premier Cru and Grand Cru offers for 2006 vintage. These wines are rare and normallly would be available only on an 'en primeur' basis. We have received a small allocation of each of the above wines which were bound for a restaurant that has gone out of existence and as a consequence the prices shown above are 20% less than RRP.

Bellbird Spring Home Block White 2008

Blended whites are sometimes treated with some scepticism because the thought is that the winemaker might be trying to create a silk purse out of a pig's ear. This is not the case with this four-graped release from the new label of Bellbird Spring in which winemaker Guy Porter has blended 60% pinot gris with rielsing, muscat and gewurztraminer. The result is a beautifully balanced and textured white, complex on the nose and palate, showing good acid balance, weight and length of finish. There is a defined hint of sweetness through the muscat - well suited to try with many Asian dishes. Highly recommended.

RRP is $29.90. Your price only $26.50

Dancing Water Sauvignon Blanc 2008

Vingeron Ross Trowsdale is a perfectionist and the 2008 release of his savvy is true to his character. This is a small production wine that certainly fits into the top rung of Sauvignon Blanc quality which is a result of fastidious vinyard and winemaking techniques. As a consequence this Awatere Valley wine is highly textured and layered, leaving one with the impression that savvy can reach heights not usually found in the majority of wines from this grape variety.

RRP is $24.50. Your special price only $21.50

Archipelego 2004

There is no question in our minds that Archipelego 2004 not only attracts attention because of its interesting name and label, but it also stands out for fantastic value-for-money. A bordeaux style blend made with both Cabernets the wine is medium weight, lifted in berry fruit aromatics, well balanced and structured and is displaying the benefits of a little ageing. All in all, it's very difficult to find an NZ red as good as this for this price, particularly from Waiheke where the prices are often famous for making you dizzy.

Was $23.50. Now is $17.90/btl and your special price only $15.90
