'Now is the winter of our discontent,' so Shakespeare wrote, but on a more positive note we should remember the days are lengthening and spring/summer will be upon us before too long. This is a great time of the year to explore 'reds' with hearty dishes like oxtail stew or lamb shanks and put any 'discontent' to bed. For example, how about a Californian Zinfandel or 'Director's Cut' Cabernet Sauvignon from the label of Francis Ford Coppola which are both in stock, or perhaps the Oregon pinot noir (below) with those 'shanks.' And before we completely boot our winter of discontent into touch let's taste some Italian and Alsace (see below) or pretend it is summer with a sauvignon blanc that's simply amazing value - scroll down to see and come in for a taste of this plus others we will have open all week. See you soon!

Cristom Mt Jefferson Cuvee Pinot Noir 2007 - Oregon, USA
Cristom is a high quality producer in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, USA. Their pinot noir vines are close planted, French style, with low yields and the wines are up to 28-years-old. They hand-harvest all their grapes and use old-world winemaking techniques with minimal winemaking intervention. One of their results is this stunning Mt Jefferson Cuvee 2007 - light ruby in color. It has a dusty and cinnamon-scented nose that is reminiscent of a village level Burgundy. It shows off the elegant style of the 2007 vintage with cherry/raspberry and higher tone red-fruit notes on the palate.
RRP is $57.90/btl. Our special price is only $51.90/btl.

Konrad Sauvignon Blanc 2009 - Best Wine Buy in July
Three things have happened since we last stocked Konrad Sav Blanc and all are in favour of the comsumer. The label is vastly improved, the wine is much superior and the price has dropped to a level that makes this savvy the best buy we have seen a while (5 years ago this was over $20/btl). It's a much better wine because it has been partly barrique fermented and in our view a stylistically better wine - it's balanced with good fruit concentration, creamy on the palate and textured; none of that overt, pungent gooseberry acidity thing going on you find in traditional S/B, and it finishes dry. This is really good buying and its not in supermarkets
Our great price to you $13.90/btl or only $155/case

Pelorus Vintage 2001 Magnum
There's nothing like a magnum of bubbly as a special birthday or anniversary celebration, especially when it's a from a top vintage and a quality producer. This is it. Michael Cooper gave the 2001 5-stars and said: "...very powerful, creamy, nutty and superbly full-flavoured." So I phoned the then winemaker/viticulturalist Ivan Sutherland about the question of longevity of the wine and he enthused it would now be at the peak of its drinking power. I get excited about magnums in the same way kids get excited about Xmas - a magnum is special (the perfect gift because few people buy magnums for themselves). Lots of developed complex secondary characters in this bottle but we don't have many so be quick.
RRP is $105/btl. Our special price is only $69.90/1.5ltr btl.

Dolbel Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2007
Displays a bright, fresh, pale straw colour with the nose showing a good balance of fruit and oak with some mineral hints. The palate is fresh and vibrant, with oak providing background support and balance to the fruit. Partial malolactic fermentation has given it good mouth-feel, but it still has enough crispness to carry the finish. Elegant and balanced, it will aged well and develop richness, elegance and enhanced stone fruit characters over time. We really liked it, and thought you might, too!
RRP is $29.90/btl. Our special price is only $26.90/btl.

ARA Pathway Marlborough Pinot Noir 2008
Our tasting team was impressed with this wine when we first tasted it, recently. This is not your typical pinot noir that comes off non-clay, flat land in Marlborough where pinot was planted just because there was a spare block of land next door to the savvy block. In fact, that type of p/n is generally an unattractive fruit-bomb. This one is very good and nothing less than outsdtanding for the price. It has varietal character
RRP $19.90/btl. Your price is just $17.90/btl
