Moss Wood Tasting - 8 wines
This Wednesday at 6pm at Eliza's Manor House, 82 Bealey Ave - cosy warm, off-street parking
Moss Wood is a premium wine producer located in the Margaret River Wine region of Western Australia. They are up with the very best in Aussie.
James Halliday is estatic about their quality, rating them a 5-Star producer,
describing the semillons as nothing less than 'glorious' and the cabernet as a ' cult classic.'
Moss Wood make Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Semillon and from Moss Wood's Ribbon Vale Vineyard, Semillon Savignon Blanc, Cabernet Merlot and Merlot. They also do a Cabernet Sauvignon produced from grapes sourced from Yallingup and Cowaramup.
Robert Parker says:
Moss Wood 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon
Deep crimson-colored, it gives up an alluring perfume of pain grille, spice box, tar, black currant, and blackberry liqueur. This is followed by a harmonious, well-integrated wine reminiscent of a classified growth Saint-Julien from a good vintage.
- Outstanding
Huon Hooke writing in the Sydney Morning Herald:
The Wine of the Week concept involves a value-for-money consideration, so reviewing such an expensive wine here is indulgent. But I feel moved to make a statement.
This is my idea of a beautiful red wine. It
'
s an essay in elegance and harmony
:
the flavours build on the palate the more you sip and the wine continues to give more, whereas many modern reds pall rapidly. Perfectly ripened fruit yields aromas of raspberry, blackberry and a subtle trace of mint
(
of which less is more
).
It strikes a perfect balance between concentration and restraint, resulting in elegance and intensity, with none of the syrupy, over-alcoholic or extracted mouth-feel of many mod-Oz cabernets. This is cabernet I want to drink, either today, in 25 years, or any time in between. It has 14 per cent alcohol.
96/100
