It's rare to find NZ wines that are "World Class" and by that I mean the wine is up there in quality with anything in Europe for a similar price. Pyramid Valley Vineyards from near Waikari have released their 'Growers Collection' wines and they are unbeliveably good. It's their first release. Who cares where good wine comes from but it's nice that this is  local. Mike & Claudia Weersing of PVV are passionate, highly intelligent, focused winemakers and we have been anticpating their first vintage release. Well, here it is, in all it's glory and we feel priviliged to be stocking these wines.

Below I have also highlighted some of our excellent new labels more suitable for everyday drinking. 2005 Hille Vineyard Semillon
Pale gold with green tinges. Trenchant nose combines lime leaf, honey, wet stone and coriander seed with the distinctive waxiness of ripe semillon. Fresh, dense and penetrating; brisk and lively with good energy and vibrant acidity - all underlain by an expansive opulence. Only 200 cases made.

2005 Lebecca Riesling

An Auslese pick: ripe, golden, non-botrytis-affected bunches. Colour pale yellow. Fresh ripe pear and spiced apple aromas with a pungent, sulphidic mineral note. Rich and tactile in the mouth, generously textured, but refreshing acidity and focusing phenolics lend thrust and verve and the salty minerality prolongs the finish. Only 500 cases made.  RRP $28.90. 2004 Eaton Family Pinot Noir
Ruby/garnet colour:an unapologetic pinot noir hue. Complex wild cherry, spice, and loam nose; fragrant, fine and perfumed with a pronounced dusty/earthy register from clay soils. Supple and seamless with good grip and persistence; delicate, ethereal, but billowing fine-grained tannins provide structural support. Only 200 caes made. RRP $45.90. Your special price $40.90

N Zero Negroamaro 2004 is made from hand harvested grapes from 35 year old vines in Salento. The wine is medium weight, displaying lush, ripe fruit characters with a well-balanced finish that is smooth and long. RRP is $19.90. Your price is just $17.50

Quota 29 Primitivo 2004 is from 35 year old vines grown just 29 metres above sea level. Thick skinned berries are hand harvested and the wine displays a deep colour and vibrant fruit characters. Aged in oak for one year before bottling. This is a big, full-bodied red with an explosive aroma of dark fruit, liqorice and spice with rich but ripe tannins. RRP is $19.90. Your price just $17.50

Trelune Malvasia Nera 2004 is a very inexpensive bottle of wine for what you're getting. It's made from 25 year old vines and while it is lighter in style to both Primitivo and Negroamaro it has lots of character and personalty with hints of spice and savouriness. RRP is $18.90. Teo D'Oro 2004 is an innovative blend of the ancient Greek grape Aglianico (a corruption of the itallian word for Hellenic) usually found in Campania and Basciliata in southern Italy with the classic Puglian grape Negroamaro from 25 year old vines to produce a vigorous, complex spicy red with masses of character.RRP is $20.90. Guigal Cotes-du-Rhone 2003

Guigal consistently makes great wines vintage after vintage and their traditional Cotes-du-Rhone is their largest selling. It is made mainly from 35-year-old Syrah vines (55%). Grenache (35%) and Mouvedre (10%). This is a rich, intensely aromatic wine that exudes red berries and hints of spice, and finishes long with smooth tannins. Mairehau Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2004

Handcrafted Marlborough savvy that offers great value

You may never have heard of this label which isn't surprising considering NZ has some 4000 labels of wine made by 540 wineries (but that's another story). Mairehau winemaker Peter Saunders has been the winemaker at Domaine Georges Michel and this is his one and only hand-crafted savvy named after his great, great grandmother. The wine had been 40% old barrel fermented and then aged on lees for 8 months. It has excellent concentration and is textured and dry. Drinking at it's peak now, the original RRP is $22.50 but we're doing it on special for $18.90. However, your special price is only $16.90/btl - I strongly recommend you get some now.
