Our two pinot noir challenges resulted in triumphs for the Waipara wines on both occasions which surprised many of our tasters. Even more surprising to me was a request to do the same with riesling. So I've decided to stage the
Waipara Vs Marlborough Riesling Challenge
at Eliza's Manor on Wednesday, 21st November at 6pm. Haven't got a clue what wines we'll use yet but they will be tasted blind so you won't know either, until after you've tasted them. Post that date in your diary if you'd like to come. In the meantime, we have some good tastings coming up plus today and tomorrow we will taste four Sandihurst wines in-shop plus a couple of others including Remarkable Banockburn Pinot Noir 2008. Hope to see you soon.

Omihi Road SVR 2007
The surprise wine of our Pinot Noir Challenge last week when it came out of 'Nowhere' to challenge the best from both Waipara and Martinborough. Wine judges Danny Schuster and Terry Copeland picked this wine (blind) as their top wine of the tasting. Made by Kym Rayner of Torlesse and Omihi fame, this is a very highly concentrated wine of which only four barrels were made. It has astounding length and is very complex while retaining all the varietal charcater of a classic pinot noir. It scored the equal of Ata Rangi but is two-thirds the cost.
RRP $49.90. Our low price to you while stocks lasts is $44.90

Domaine L'Auriere Muscadet 2006
Everything you want from a wine designed for seafood. Tangy, fresh, crisp nose that is reminsicent of a day at the beach digging for pippis and cockles. Then comes the weighty, dry, textural palate that drapes from the tongue with characters that compliment the freshest, simply cooked seafood. The wine has length to impress with a citrus, zesty note at the finish. All in all, a stunning wine that represents incredible value . Muscadet is rare but invariably impressive and is always from France's Loire Valley. If anything in life is worth a try then it's this wine.
RRP is a low $21.90. You will pay only $19.70/btl

Muddy Water 'Slow Hand' Pinot Noir 2007
The top scoring wine out of 28 wines scored in our last two pinot noir blind tastings with 790 points, averaging 18.80 out of 20. Still quite youthful after some 18 months in oak, this wine will go on and improve for quite some time. Very complex and will improve as it intergrates; very classy with lots of finesse which caused 10 of our blind tasters out of 42 to score it the perfect 20/20. This wine has the potential to develop into one of NZ's best ever pinot noirs. Buy now or you may never get the opportinity to taste it.

Willm Tokay Cuvee Emile Pinot Gris 2006
Last of the 2006 which is a stunning wine. The 2007 has gone up to $43/btl so this vintage is great value - we got the last couple of cases. The wine has a yellowish tinge with ocher lights. The nose is powerful and complex, toasted and smokey notes. On the palate it's generous with good structure and acidity - notes of ripe peach and apricot with a spicy finish. Excellent gris for the money.
RRP $35.50/bottle. Our special price only $31.50
