Historically Alsace is the most disputed wine region in the world, changing hands between France and Germany on numerous occasions. And when you taste the wines of this remarkable region you will fully understand why. Today Alsace is separated from Germany by the River Rhine but the language and culture of Alsace owes much to both origins. Alsace is where you will find places that look exactly the same as they did in the Middle Ages, where the local cuisine is argued to be the best in France and where the wines include the most highly sought-after aromatic whites in the world.  There can never be a reason good enough to pass-up a chance to sample the wines of Alsace, especially when Nik Mavromatis is matching food to them - you owe this occasion to your taste buds!

Taste the Wines of Alsace Willm

The Willm Domaine, founded in 1896 by the Willm family, has built a worldwide reputation for wines of balance, elegance and style. It became the first Alsace producer to ship its wines to the U.S. after prohibition and is now among the leading Alsace exporters to the United States, Canada and Europe.

Willm is a relatively new label to NZ and a tasting of the range imported here has not previously been undertaken in ChCh. We have been impressed with the quality and value the Willm range offers and look forward to presenting to you eight wines on Wednesday evening 18th February at 6pm at Mediterranean Foods, 322 Tuam St (opp ChCh Star Bldg). The wines to taste include the Reserve range, Cuvee Emile range and we finish with two Grand Crus. The varieties are riesling, pinot gris and gewurztraminer. Our per head price of $20 includes foodmatches presented by Nik Mavromatis, renowned Chef at Mediterranean Foods

Booking is essential to secure your seat. $20pp (ridiculously cheap for this quality food and wine). This is a sit-down tutored tasting of approximately one and a half hours duration - tasters need to arrive prior to 6pm and we ask you not to wear perfume or lipstick (especially the guys) as these wines are highly aromatic. Spiegelau glassware will be used at this tasting.
