The Friday Event at Hemingway Fines is now a regular happening so get down here and get your wine, cheese and try a Peter Timbs gourmet sausage off the b-b-q. All the profits from our sauage sizzle which goes from 2pm will go to the Red Cross earthquake Appeal Fund, and as usual we'll have our in-store wine and cheese matching which co-incides with the Canterbury Cheesemongers who will sell their cheeses until about 7pm.
Would be great to see you here. You're sure to meet some good people and enjoy yourself. And don't forget this is now a weekly event every Friday at 2pm

Today & Saturday we're tasting the Treasury Wines Estates range
Our free in-store tasting this week is the Treasury Wine Estates (part of Foster's) range of wine which includes such good labels as Pepperjack, Ingoldby, Annies Lane, Metala, Moncellier, etc. We will have a good number of these wines open for tasting and matching with a variety of cheeses from the Canterbury Cheesemongers.
The wine pictured at right is Pepperjack which is an excellent Barossa Valley producer. Their 2008 releases of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz are available here in the shop for $17.90/btl. Or for those shoppers who prefer cheaper buys in the supermarket it's also available at Countdown for $24.99 - yes, we beat them by 40% on that one - just one of the many wines on which we beat the supermarkets on price. And, the supermarkets won't let you taste it first, either.
Supermarket Price $24.99. Hemingway price $17.90 (no-brainer)

Toscolo Chianti 2009
This new vintage of Toscolo is fantastic. It has really good fruit character and a bit more concentration and palate weight than the previous vintage while retaining all the varietal character you expect from Sangiovese coming from Tuscany. This wine is a favourite - you won't be disappointed or your money back.
Normal retail price is $22.90. Your special price only $20.60/btl

Spiegelau Glasses at Sale Prices - up to 40% off rrp
We still have some great deals on glasses if you didn't take advantage of our recent specials. The trick to getting the best out of all classy wine is to drink it out of a quality glass. Nothing will improve a wine as well as a purpose designed glass; after years of testing glasses at Riedel Masterclasses and doing lots of private testing, we can say a good wine glass is worth more than its weight in the process of wine enjoyment. There's lots of truth in the old saying that "you can't enjoy grand cru when taken from a jam jar." We have been running this special for awhile now but have kept it going post earthquake as some customers have had to return to replace glassware lost on September 4th.

Knappstein Clare Valley Riesling 2008
If you are a lover of dry riesling from South Australia's Clare or Eden Valleys then this wine is for you. Dry but not bone dry but showing really lovely fruit with a texture that allows it to drape rather than fall of the tongue. The grapes are hand-picked from low-yielding vines and there has been minimal winemaking intervention. The wine itself displays notes of limes and lemons and mineral - it has a lifted bouquet, good structure and length. I am always amazed how a wine this good can sell at such a low price - but that's riesling. You be the judge.
Normal retail price $22.90. Your special price only $20.60

Insoglio del Cinghale Campo di Sasso 2007
Insoglio is one of the 'super-tuscans' that hails from Bibbona on the Etruscan Coast of Italy, very close to the famed Ornellaia and Sassicaia vineyards. Made from almost equal parcels of Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, this wine also has a touch of Petite Verdot (5%). This is a very stylish intense wine with a lifted bouquet of fruit, spice and liquorice. On the palate it shows balance and harmony with a dominance of fruit characters; blackcurrant, tobacco, mint, oak and a firm tannic grip on finish. Treat yourself.
RRP $53.90/btl. Your price is just $48.50/btl

Omihi Hills Limestone Ridge Pinot Noir 2008
Last week we tasted in-shop the complete range of Omihi Hills wines - three pinot noirs - and they were all very impressive. If you don't recognise the label it's because the name has changed from Danny Schuster Wines from the previous 2007 vintage to Omihi Hills with an impressive stylised label design. All three pinots, the Omihi Selection, the Waipara Selection and the Limestone Ridge are serious contenders at their price points. We throughly recommend them to discerning pinophiles.
Limestone Ridge RRP $27.90, our special price only $24.90/btl
