Coto de Hayas Tinto 2008
One of the world's great wine bargains which is not oak-aged but released early after bottling (Joven). It has intense aromas - a blend of subtle fruit and balsam, pleasantly complex while the palate is full, well-structured, lingering taste, rich in nuances. Made from Garnacha vines over 40 years old and Tempranillo (25 years). The result is a wine of amazing intensity and character that belies its inexpensive price-tag.

Newton Forrest Gimblett Gravels Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
Straight Cabernet Sauvignon in NZ is often found wanting for ripeness and richness but not this one and, furthermore, we think you should try it, not only with traditional roast lamb, but with 85% cocoa chocolate - what a treat these two make together. It shows ripe cabernet flavours of black currants, black berry, dry herbs and a smokey cigar box. The palate has the same blackberry fruit, dry herbs and smokey aromas intermingled with cabernets fabulous tannic texture – rich intense tannins that at the same time are both full and drying yet soft and opulent. The chocolate comes from Johnston's Grocery store in Colombo Street.

Lustau Solera Rserva Pedro Ximenez Sherry 375ml
Almost black in colour. A pronounced and delicious bouquet of the essence of sweet raisins. The taste is very sweet, smooth and delicous just like dried raisins or sweet grape juice. Very sweet dessert wine (450gms residual sugar) consumed on its own or with rich, fruity puddings. Looking for the best under $20 bubbles?
Pale straw in colour. Fresh, hint of bakers yeast and panacotta on the bouquet. The palate is full with delicate crab apple and pear fruit flavours. Excellent super-fine bead and very good mousse for a wine of this price - crisp, dry and palate cleansing. Highly reccomended and we have the Rose Brut for the same price.
