Dean and I have tasted some very good wines lately and as a consequence we have some interesting new wines in stock, far too many to mention here, but there are four recommendations below that offer excellent drinking for the price. On Saturday we will have these and other wines open in the shop for you to taste - please consider yourself invited to come in for a taste . No, we are not having a 'Wine Dump,' we are not bombarding you with emails and phone calls, we don't have 50 wines open in-store, we are not in panic mode and we are not from Auckland. Instead we are coming up to our 8th Birthday in October, have put together three excellent tastings for you to attend (below) in the short-term, are committed to offering you the best service we can and making the best wine recommendations at the best prices we can offer. Hope to see you soon and happy drinking

Four Wines of merit to try

Montellori Chianti 2004

Drinking at its very best this wine offers everything would want from a stereotypical quality Chianti; it offers a spicy, sauvoury fruit characters that leans more towards black cherry flavours with good length and a dry, dusty, fine tannin finish that makes it the perfect match for the likes of lasagne or bolognaise. The 2004 vintage was an outstanding one for Chianti and this is at its peak. You can't but better quality Italian for the price. Highly recommended.

RRP is $19/btl. Our price on special a low $15.90 or $188/case

Luzon Organic 2006 - Spain

New label which will not only appeal to those looking for 'organic' but is a very worthwhile wine made from 100% Monastrell grapes (also known as Mouvedre) in the Jumilla district of Spain. Organic also means low in Preservative 220 (sulphur dioxide). Typical of the grape, the wine has good primary fruit charcters, full flavoured and excellent either as an aperitif or food wine. Dean says, "Light, fruity, modern spanish red, nice fruit with red currants, plum, spice, licorice and a touch of earth."

RRP $21.50. Our special price only $18.90/btl or only $229/case

Weeping Sands Waiheke Island Cabernet Merlot 2006

If you're looking for an excellent Bordeaux style NZ wine this wine has a lot of merit.  It has a an alluring lifted bouquet of cassis and is followed on the palate by complex blackberry/blackcurrent characters and a hint of chocolate, holds up well through the mid-palate and finishes with nicely structured tannins - the blend is 60% Cab Sav, 35% Merlot and a dash of both Malbec and Cabernet Franc.  This is a good wine with cellaring potential and it proves Waiheke Island does have some good value wines.

RRP $28/btl. Our special price is $24.90 or $288/case.

Cracroft Chase Wood's Edge Pinot Gris 2006

There are few if any other wine producers in NZ that have just one label but the Wood's Edge Pinot Gris is the one wine of Alessandro and Wilma Laryn who came from Italy in 1996. Produced from their single vineyard estate in Cracroft Chase, this is a very consistent style made from vintage to vintage and this 2006 release comes highly recommended. It has the mouthfilling texture that good pinot gris needs and also delivers stone fruit, pear and spicy characters with a long, dry finish. What more do you need for this price.

RRP is $21/btl. Our special price to you is just $18.50 or $216/case
